Maybe it's because of high humidity. Evaporative cooler doesn't work efficiently in a humid area.

Hello! The tested sound level of this portable AC is between 51 to 53 Decibels (low to high fan speeds). This Classic series has been selling for over 7 years and is one of our most popular models. Sound however, does exist due to the internal operation of the motor and compressor (as with any portable air conditioner) and whether it is bearable can be a subjective experience for each person. Not strictly true. It depends on the application. They are more effective than AC where you need to provide a lot of ventilation too. If you are constantly changing the air then you are dumping AC generated cool air. In that case AC is a more expensive option

@@GSimpsonOAM I honestly don’t understand what you are saying, all I know is that I bought one and tried it for a week. It was no more effective that just a fan. It was effective for like 5 minutes just after refilling the ice. And it made the room very humid. For context, I live in Africa with average temperatures of 28-34 degrees CELCIUS. Installed aircon works much better and less effort than filling ice every 15 minutes. If you use it the whole day…. That’s more ice than the fridge can hold. Impractical

@@robbylebotha yes you don't understand. An evaporative cooler does not use ice. It uses the evaporation of water to cool the air.

@@robbylebotha sorry if that sounded a little abrupt. What I am saying is that what you bought was not an evaporative cooler. It simply relied on the energy to melt the ice so is not the same. Evaporative coolers absorb heat converting liquid water to vapour. Similar but not the same. This will increase humidity so will not work where there is high humidity already. Where I live we have temps in mid 20s and low humidity so these work very well and use a lot less energy than an AC system
